Wake Me in Spring
Play Script

Mouse: Brrrr, It’s getting cold.

Bear: (yawning) Yes, it sure is cold Mouse. I feel winter in my bones. Now that winter is here I guess it is time for me to go to bed. I’m so tired I will surely sleep all winter long.

Mouse: But Bear, you’ll miss winter!

Bear: (yawning) I’m so sleepy I don’t care.

Mouse: You will miss sleigh rides in the snow.

Bear: (yawning) I’m so sleepy I don’t care.

Mouse: You will miss hot chocolate in steaming cups.

Bear: I don’t care.

Mouse: You will miss ice skating on frozen lakes.

Bear: Oh Mouse, I am just so sleepy. A Bear is supposed to sleep through winter you know.

Mouse: You will miss snowmen with carrot noses.

Bear: I don’t care.

Mouse: (sighs and sniffles) But I will miss you.

Bear: Mouse I will not miss sleigh rides in the snow, hot chocolate in steaming cups, ice skating on frozen lakes, or even snowmen with carrot noses. (pauses) But Mouse, I will miss you very much. (Bear bends down and gives mouse a hug) Come here friend let me give you the best kind of hug in the world, a hug that will last all winter, a bear hug. Please understand my little friend that a Bear needs to sleep all winter long.

Mouse: (sniffing and blowing his nose)

Bear: (gets his tooth brush) Mouse I feel winter in my bones, please wake me in Spring when flowers bloom and birds sing.

Mouse: (covering Bear with a blanket) Good night Bear. Sleep tight I’ll see you in spring when flowers bloom and best friends sing. Until then dream of me and all the fun things we will do, good night friend.
