CHARACTERS

MOUSE

BOY

 

 

MOUSE and BOY enter.

 

MOUSE: May I have a cookie?

 

BOY: Yes, you may.

 

BOY exits and returns with cookie.

 

BOY: Here, Mouse. A warm chocolate chip cookie … just for you.

 

MOUSE: Oh, boy! A chocolate chip cookie just for me! It’s delicious! Thank you!

 

MOUSE exits, drops cookie and then enters.

 

MOUSE: May I have a glass of milk? That cookie made me very thirsty.

 

BOY: Yes, you may.

 

BOY exits and returns with milk.

 

BOY: Here, Mouse. A cool glass of milk … just for you.

 

MOUSE: Oh, boy! A glass of milk just for me! Yum! Thank you!

 

MOUSE exits, drops the milk, then enters.

 

MOUSE: May I have a napkin? I have crumbs in my whiskers!

 

BOY: Yes, you may.

 

BOY exits and returns with napkin.

 

BOY: Here, Mouse. A soft napkin … just for you.

 

MOUSE: Oh, boy! A napkin just for me! Wonderful! Thank you!

 

MOUSE exits, drops the napkin, then enters.

 

MOUSE: May I have a mirror? I want to be sure I don’t have a milk mustache!

 

BOY: Yes, you may.

 

BOY exits and returns with mirror.

 

BOY: Here, Mouse. A shiny mirror … just for you.

 

MOUSE: Oh, boy! A mirror just for me! It’s so sparkly. Thank you!

 

MOUSE exits, drops mirror, then enters.

 

MOUSE: May I have a pair of scissors? When I was looking at my face in the mirror, I noticed that my whiskers need a trim.

 

BOY: Yes, you may.

 

BOY exits and returns with scissors.

 

BOY: Here, Mouse. A sharp pair of scissors … just for you.

 

MOUSE: Oh, boy! A pair of scissors just for me! These will give a fine haircut! Thank you!

 

MOUSE exits, drops the scissors, then enters.

 

MOUSE: May I have a broom? I must sweep away my trimmed whiskers.

 

BOY: Yes, you may.

 

BOY exits and returns with broom.

 

BOY: Here, Mouse. A sweeping broom … just for you.

 

MOUSE: Oh, boy! A broom just for me! This will do the job nicely! Thank you!

 

MOUSE exits, drops the broom, then enters.

 

MOUSE: May I have a pillow? I’d like to take a nap now.

 

BOY: Yes, you may.

 

BOY exits and returns with pillow.

 

BOY: Here, Mouse. A fluffy pillow … just for you.

 

MOUSE: Thank you! Now, will you read me a story?

 

BOY: Of course. What story would you like to hear?

 

MOUSE: Hmmmm … If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff.

 

BOY: One of my favorites.

 

BOY exits and returns with book.

 

BOY: If you give a mouse a cookie, he’s going to ask for a glass of milk …

 

MOUSE (interrupting): Oh! Look at the pictures! I would love to draw a picture of my own. May I have a piece of paper and a box of crayons?

 

BOY: Yes, you may.

 

BOY exits and returns with paper and crayons.

 

BOY: Here, Mouse. A colorful set of paper and crayons … just for you.

 

MOUSE: Oh, boy! A set of paper and crayons just for me! I’ll draw a beautiful picture just for you.

 

MOUSE exits, drops the paper/crayons, and returns with drawing.

 

MOUSE: Tada!

 

BOY: Wow, Mouse! That certainly is a beautiful drawing. Let’s hang it up on the refrigerator for everyone to see.

 

MOUSE: Great idea! May I have the Scotch tape?

 

THEY exit, then enter.

 

BOY: So, Mouse? How about that nap now?

 

MOUSE: You know, looking at my drawing hanging on the refrigerator reminded me of something.

 

BOY: What, Mouse?

 

MOUSE: All that work made me very thirsty. May I have a glass of milk?

 

BOY: Yes, you may.

 

BOY exits and returns with milk.

 

BOY: Here, Mouse. A cool glass of milk … just for you.

 

MOUSE: Oh, boy! A glass of milk just for me. How refreshing! Now, there’s just one more thing I’ll need.

 

BOY: What, Mouse?
