Play Script

 

 

 

CHARACTERS

Henny Penny, a chicken

Ducky Lucky, a duck

Piggy Wiggy, a pig

Foxy Loxy, a fox

 

HENNY enters

 

HENNY: Oh, what a beautiful morning to scratch around under my apple tree in the barnyard!

 

Apple falls from tree and hits HENNY on the head.

 

HENNY: Ouch! Goodness me! Something from up there just fell on my head. Hmmm … Oh no! The sky must be falling! The sky must be falling! I must go warn the king.

 

HENNY exits.

 

DUCKY enters.

 

HENNY enters.

 

DUCKY: Good morning, Henny Penny! Where are you off to in such a rush this fine morning?

 

HENNY: Oh, Ducky Lucky! I have terrible, distressing news! A piece of the sky just fell on my head. The sky is falling! I’m filled with dread!

 

DUCKY: What?!

 

HENNY: Isn’t it awful?!

 

DUCKY: The sky is falling?! Distressing, indeed! Imagine that! We’d better take heed! Come, Henny Penny. Let us both go warn the king.

 

HENNY and DUCKY exit.

 

PIGGY enters.

 

HENNY AND DUCKY enter.

 

PIGGY: Hi, poultry pals! What’s shaking and baking?

 

HENNY: The sky is falling, Piggy Wiggy

 

DUCKY: A piece hit Henny on the head!

 

HENNY: We’re off to warn the King.

 

DUCKY: Get under the bed!

 

PIGGY: Oh, my! How awful! I feel myself a shakin! The world is over! Oh, the horror! I’ll soon be ham and bacon! Let’s all go warn the king together!

 

HENNY, DUCKY and PIGGY exit.

 

FOXY LOXY enters.

 

FOXY: (stretching and yawning) Oh, what a beautiful morning to chase some chickens! (Clucking can be heard in the background.) What luck! I think I hear some now!

 

HENNY, DUCKY AND PIGGY enter.

 

FOXY: Good morning, my barnyard friends! Where’s the fire?

 

HENNY: The barnyard is in a state of emergency, Foxy Loxy! The sky is falling down!

 

DUCKY: A piece hit Henny on the head!

 

PIGGY: Don’t just stand there and frown!

 

HENNY, DUCKY, PIGGY: Come on! Come on! There’s no time to wait. We must warn the King before it’s too late! (They proceed to cluck, oink and quack loudly.)

 

FOXY: Stop your clucking! Are you pulling my leg?

 

HENNY, DUCKY, PIGGY: Of course not! (Clucking continues)

 

FOXY: Hush, bird brains! Don’t say another word! Henny, where were you when this tragic event occurred?

 

HENNY: In my pen, Foxy Loxy, don’t you see?! Scratching around under my apple tree!

 

FOXY: Ah-ha … A monumental catastrophe in your very own pen! Oh, my! Simply stunning! That’s a shame, Miss Hen! (FOXY takes a beat, then speaks to audience.) JACKPOT! That hen sure aint’ bright I think I’ll make her my dinner tonight.

 

DUCKY: Come on! Come on! Come on! Our precious time is wasting! If we don’t warn the King right this minute, then we’ll all be basting!

 

PIGGY: Right behind you!

 

HENNY: Lead the way!

 

FOXY: Your mission is most important. Good luck to you, my friends. To the king’s palace, I know a shortcut!

 

HENNY: Where?

 

FOXY: Right through my den!

 

HENNY: Oh, thank you, Foxy Loxy!

 

FOXY: This way, Mademoiselles and Monsieur.

 

DUCKY: We owe you a favor!

 

PIGGY: We’re indebted to you, sir!

 

HENNY, PIGGY, and DUCKY exit.

 

FOXY: Lucky fox! Lucky fox! A lucky fox, that’s me! It wasn’t a piece of sky that fell. It was an apple from that tree! What fools! What fools! They aren’t at all suspicious! They don’t look any worse for the wear. In fact, they look delicious!

 

FOXY exits.

 

HENNY, PIGGY, AND DUCKY ENTER

 

Henny: He said thru the den but this looks like a pen.

 

PIGGY: He said right thru there but I have a feeling the king ain’t near.

 

DUCKY: I think this is a trick and that we should leave here quick!

 

HENNY: Run for your lives!!!!!

 

HENNY, PIGGY, AND DUCKY RUN AND EXIT

 

FOXY LOXY ENTERS

 

FOXY: Oh drat that fat hen got away….Well I’m sure we’ll meet again on another day. (EVIL LAUGHTER)
